Google & the FCC

I heard the great news today that Google will in fact place a bid on
the 700 megahertz spectrum that’s becoming available due to the FCC
analog to digital transition! This is great news even if Google
doesn’t win the bid– they made it so that new wireless services will
have to be freely available to consumers like never before!

Exciting stuff, Mario. Also, keep an eye out on the 5.9Ghz spectrum which was allocated in 2003 to the transportation industry by the FCC. Automakers are working now on some really cool apps. Although the spectrum will have a safety focus, the FCC agreed to allow mobility and convenience apps at a lower priority. I have been in the auto industry for over 25 years…. I gotta tell you Vehicle Infrastructure Integration will be as impactful as the automatic transmission. Mark my words.

Nice! This is very interesting. I look forward to the new technologies including VII as the previous poster mentioned. I hear that the Ford/Microsoft collaboration known as SYNC is very nice.
