In this segment we are broadcasting from CNN in NYC. We sit down with Soledad O’Brien to discuss her newest documentary for the CNN In America series. Her newest doc focuses on innovation, technology and entrepreneurship by following the story of 8 Black techies who leave their families behind to move to Silicon Valley for the summer to pursue their tech startup. We discuss the doc, what surprised her and how she answers to those who think focusing a special on Blacks is limiting.

Mario… I know the middle school teachers wanted to give you a high 5 for this –> “stop raising up Thomas Edison’s like that’s the role model”… kids need exposure to more people that look like them to help them realize their dreams. I agree that tech companies are cool and different than the zoo.

failure is just another data point. We should not be judged as a group for one, just because we are from the same race
