The # of incoming freshmen who declared themselves computer science majors is down 60% since 2000. The National Science Foundation aims to change this number through their “Broadening Participation In Computing” program that awards large grants with the goal of increasing gender and ethnic diversity to build back the United States’ global competitiveness in this field.
