Apple is widely expected to launch the new iPad 5 today, as well as the latest version of their desktop operating system, OS X Mavericks. A refresh of the Macbook Pro line as well as the Mac minis seems likely, and observers are hoping to see a new iPad mini with Retina display as well. But what else will Apple announce? A television? iPads are being show in cars, planes, underwater and in the air.
Apple is now showing a video about all the different ways their customers are using iPads to work in various industries.
There are now 475,000 iPad-native apps, not stretched out smartphone apps.
“iPad is used over four times more than all those other tablets put together.”
Tim Cook is talking about how far the iPad has come, and how fast. But as he points out, “Everyone seems to be making a tablet” now.

These brand new versions of the iWork productivity suite is ALSO going to be free with the purchase of any new Mac or iOS device.

They’re showing off the awesome new Pages word processing app. It’s easier than ever to make great looking documents as well as share them.

Garageband is getting an all-new look for iOS 7.
For everyone, it’s moving from 8 to 16 tracks.
On a 64-bit device, an unbelievable 32 tracks of music will be available!
Plus, you can start a song on your Mac, iPhone or iPad, and you’ll always have the latest version of that file available on all your devices.
Speed up or slow down video on with iMovie on your Mac, iPhone or iPad.
Desktop-class effects for iMovie coming to iPhone and iPad
On iOS, iPhoto has a brand new look, and they’re adding the ability to make Photo Books on the iPad.
New versions of iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband, for both the Mac and iPhone/ipad.
So that’s the new Mac Pro. Now we’re going to talk about apps.

The new maps has beautiful 3D maps and you can send turn-by-turn directions straight to your iPhone
They’ve made some great changes to how notifications work on Mavericks, which can let websites ping you with notifications. They showed off new clothes on Gilt popping up as well as MLB baseball scores appearing on your screen.
Plus, you can respond to new messages directly from the notification now.
iBooks for OS X Mavericks offers all the same great features as iBooks for the iPad and iPhone, like seamless integration of the interactive and multimedia content often found in iBooks.
One exciting thing that will make scholarly work easier is that you can easily pull quotes, images, and more straight from iBooks and drop them into a Pages document on your Mac.
Two big apps for Mavericks include an iOS-style Maps app as well as iBooks.
For image processing and gaming tasks that take advantage of OpenCL graphics, Mavericks is offering a 1.8x boost to graphics performance.
Now they’re talking about all the new changes to OS X Mavericks, the new version of Apple’s desktop and laptop operating system.
Apple is promising that with the new changes to how Mavericks uses power, you’ll get up to an hour longer battery life browsing the web or 1.5hr watching videos on a 13″ MacBook Air.
