This is another one of CES’s Innovation Awards winners for this year, and it’s a cool idea (though definitely not a must-have for everybody)! Basically, the Apex HD Goggles are like regular skiing goggles, but they also double as a video record of your entire ski run!
The Apex HD Goggles record in full HD from a camera mounted above the bridge of the Goggles, so it captures exactly what you see while you’re wearing them. Plus it can even livestream directly to an Android or iDevice, so it’s like other people are there too. That makes it easy to review what went right or wrong during your run. It can also function as still camera, if you’re more interested in taking photos.
At $400, it’s definitely a luxury item for the hardcore, but it’s cool tech to watch that will probably come down in price as it gets more popular. The company behind the goggles, Liquid Image, already makes googles designed for other intense activities, like scuba diving or offroad biking, with intro models starting at around $150.
