Is the iPhone 5 the most anticipated product launch in history? On the TODAY show over the weekend, I showed off the iPhone 5 and talked about what’s exciting and new with the product. Plus, I try Siri out live and it… doesn’t exactly work as expected. Well, you can’t get everything to work during a live demo!
I also talk about the new maps, the connector, and offer a few alternative phones for buyers who really want to consider everything that’s on the market—I show off the Nokia Lumia 900 which runs Windows Phone 7, as well as both the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Droid RAZR M, both of which are running Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich variation of the Android operating system.
On this week’s episode of the #SocamShow, Shy and I head to the Apple Store on 5th Avenue in NYC, the center of New York’s iPhone hype. All the major networks were there to capture video live from outside the store, and in-between hits for HLN and CNN, we snuck in an episode of our show.
The #SocamShow airs weekly at socialcam.com/mario, check it out and follow Mario Armstrong on Socialcam today!
Today on the TODAY show I did a HUGE roundup of all the hottest tech to tailgate. From a robot that looks like R2D2 and stashes your beers to branded team coolers and awesome portable speakers, I’ve got a lock on everything you need to impress this football season.

This week on the #SocamShow, Shy and I find the mysteriously named Paint Boys who provide the intro for the show, watch two videos of child prodigies in action (a little kid who DJs and an insane Ping Pong player) as well as just take in the sights & sounds of Central Park in NYC.
And don’t forget to #reduce, #reuse, and #rehashtag!
The #SocamShow is a mobile talk show that features videos from a variety of Socialcam users, and airs weekly on the Socialcam App for iPhone and Android. We think it’s the world’s first mobile talk show, it’s definitely the first show to have aired directly from Jay-Z’s suite at the 40/40 club, and it’s probably the only show where it’s name is also a hashtage. iPhone fever is at an all time high, and as everyone knows I’m a huge fan of the product. But does that necessarily mean it’s the right choice for everyone to upgrade? With the phone already smashing all pre-order records for Apple, selling 2 million devices in the first 24-hours it was on pre-sale, it’s obvious there’s a huge amount of interest. But does that mean it’s necessarily time for you to upgrade?
On CNN this weekend, I talked with Victor Blackwell about everything iPhone 5—the new dock connector & chargers, who should upgrade, and who gets an upgrade to the new iOS 6 operating system for free. Just about the only thing I didn’t ask is why Victor owns two iPhone 4’s!
This week was crazy if you follow the tech scene! On Wednesday, Tim Cook and his team at Apple took the stage in California to announce the iPhone 5 to the world. And then later that night I teamed up with Socialcam and Duracell Powermat to throw a party in NYC that was such a big deal that Jay-Z came!
This morning on the TODAY show, Savannah Guthrie and I discussed the new Apple “Lightning” adapter that’s replacing the older 30-pin adapter on the iPhone 5 as well as the newest iPod devices. We also tackle the tough issue as to whether or not you should upgrade. Here’s a hint: I’m going to, but Savannah isn’t. Want to find out why? Check the video above.
Earlier today, I appeared on NRP’s Tell Me More with host Michel Martin to talk about the new iPhone and whether or not it’s worth the upgrade. We break down the different new features and try to offer some sane tips to people who are looking at their phones today and wondering if the new iPhone is going to be something they want to invest in. Listen to the full interview above!
