I was at the SOL Republic press event today at CES and I got a preview of their latest designs. These headphones look good, sound great, and start at only $99. Plus they had not one but TWO Maryland shoutouts and you know I love that!

This is just the beginning of our CES coverage, so check back on my blog, Socialcam or on Twitter for TONS more videos from Las Vegas. You can follow my #MarioAtCES hashtag for all the latest!

Will We See The Future of the Automotive Industry This Year at CES?

While cars are always a big part of the CES experience, this year has promised some surprises. Last year Google brought us some spectacular videos of self driving automobile tech but that still feels like its a ways off. After all, a video is one thing, but a real self-driving car you can buy and take on the road? That’s quite a ways off.

Not to be deterred however, Toyota has already “leaked” a 5 second clip of a Lexus that drives itself:

If that short video is any indication, Toyota has some big announcements coming this year at CES. And they won’t be the only ones—Audi, Ford, General Motors and Hyundai are here in Las Vegas prepping their own booths and interactive displays for when the show floor opens tomorrow. Sure, we’re going to see the latest in-car navigation systems, speech-recognition, next-gen dashboard displays, and greater smartphone-car integration this year, but what will really stand out of the pack? We won’t know until tomorrow, so make sure you’re following me on twitter here for all the latest updates!

CES Innovation Award: Touch Table PC

This table top is mostly screen: a screen that can let you order a meal and even pay right through the table top. They’re not available yet, but manufacturer Moneual thinks they’d be great in high-traffic areas, like airports. What do you think? Would you order dinner through your table?

CES 2013 Innovation Award: Apex HD Goggles

Apex HD+ Goggles at CES Innovation Awards
Apex HD+ Goggles

This is another one of CES’s Innovation Awards winners for this year, and it’s a cool idea (though definitely not a must-have for everybody)! Basically, the Apex HD Goggles are like regular skiing goggles, but they also double as a video record of your entire ski run!

The Apex HD Goggles record in full HD from a camera mounted above the bridge of the Goggles, so it captures exactly what you see while you’re wearing them. Plus it can even livestream directly to an Android or iDevice, so it’s like other people are there too. That makes it easy to review what went right or wrong during your run. It can also function as still camera, if you’re more interested in taking photos.

At $400, it’s definitely a luxury item for the hardcore, but it’s cool tech to watch that will probably come down in price as it gets more popular. The company behind the goggles, Liquid Image, already makes googles designed for other intense activities, like scuba diving or offroad biking, with intro models starting at around  $150.
