Victorinox Swiss Army Flash Drives Aren’t Just Secure, They’re Unhackable

In today’s mobile business world, data is king.  Having the right files at your fingertips can be what makes or breaks that big deal, and you never know which deck is going to give you that competitive advantage.  With more and more data able to fit onto smaller and more portable devices, the age-old problem of data security has gotten even more complex. After all, the information that helps you close the big deal is exactly the information that you don’t want to drop on the floor for the competition to find.  Or, maybe you need to store your client’s financial information and want to make absolutely sure that it’s not divulged to a local identity thief. In either case, Victorinox (yes, the same folks who brought you the Swiss Army knife) has just what you need. It’s called the “un-hackable flash drive”, and it keeps your information completely safe while you’re on the go. Read More

Bizness Apps makes apps for your small business

Everyone wants a custom app for their small business, but there’s not always the time or money needed to code one up from scratch.  As most business owners are busy with the daily needs of of their business and don’t have time to take an advanced HTML class, Bizness Apps can help. They provide a series of functional components that can be easily plugged into an app and deployed using HTML5 and/or to the Apple App Store or Android Market.

I am often dubious of one-size-fits-all solutions, because they remind me of the heinous website templates of the early internet (geocities, anyone?).  A time when anyone with some basic HTML knowledge felt justified in charging thousands of dollars for 5 minutes of mindless data entry, calling the result a “professional” website. However, Bizness Apps isn’t like this.  Bizness Apps can leverage design skills to make something really attractive. A great option for design professionals who do not like to code, Bizness Apps offers a white-label solution that can be resold to clients. Read More

Sonar App for iPhone Now Displays LinkedIn Connections When You Check-in

The Sonar app is a great way to find out how you are connected to other people where you are located. By checking in to a location using Sonar (pulls location information from Foursquare) you see not only who has also checked in, but how you are connected. Initially, Sonar used Twitter and Foursquare connections. Now the app has turned on LinkedIn as a method for fishing out your relationship to those around you.

Actually, you don’t even have to check-in to see who is at a location and if there are any connections. Upon opening, the app shows you nearby locations (you can also search if  your location is not on the list), and the number of people currently checked in. Read More

Quisitive Saves You Embarrassment, Lawyer Fees

Shakespeare wrote “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.”.  Nothing could be further from the truth in business.  Naming and slogans are some of the most important aspects of branding.  People do not ask for a facial tissue, they ask for a Kleenex, rather than an adhesive bandage one might ask for a Band-Aid.  When companies want to distance themselves from a product that has tanked, they change the name, when they want to be associated with something great they adopt it’s name or naming convention.  Take for instance the letter ‘i’ in front of a product name, mimicking the iPod, accessories for the device often are named with an ‘i’, for example iDock or iClock.  Recently at the company where I work, we did some market research and found that some small changes to our name would greatly improve how our product was received by our potential customers.

Before now when the time came to name or rename a brand the only way to make sure that you were not using a name that was already associated with another brand or product was to pour over thousands of pages of patent records, or even worse, pay an expensive attorney to do so.  Why pay a lawyer to do what your iPad can do for five bucks with Quisitive?  Thіѕ awesome app allows users tο screen аnd search аll οf thе trademark аnd patent filings іn thе United States, аll frοm thеir iOS device.  Fοr thе entrepreneur or marketing professional οn thе gο, thіѕ is a critical tool tο add tο your kit.  If you think that this would be useful to you give іt a download аnd lеt υѕ know what you think іn thе comments.

Can You Make Money Selling Directly Through Facebook?

Is your small business conducting e-commerce directly through Facebook?  According to a recent study by Ability Commerce, only 10% of the Web’s largest retailers sell products directly through Facebook.  Are retailers simply not hip to the sell-through potential of the world’s most popular social media site?  Or, as I pointed out in my early review of Google+, is this just indicative of Facebook’s long-standing difficulties in integrating e-commerce into its social networking architecture? Evernote for Android Update Bears First Fruits of Skitch Acquisition

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about Evernote acquiring Skitch, originally a Mac app that lets you edit/annotate images. Evernote had big plans for Skitch, including integrating some of the app’s best features directly into the Evernote desktop and its suite of mobile apps. Looks like Android wins out as the first app to benefit from the Skitch acquisition. Read More
